Home | Workshop Overview On October 5-7, 2005, ACES (Alliance for Commercial Enterprises in Space) convened the first of two planned workshops to catalyze the emerging commercial space industry. The participants in this workshop represented many aspects of the budding commercial space industry - including the supply side, the demand side, researchers, space entrepreneurs, NASA, the venture capital community and a variety of related stakeholders. The first day of the workshop consisted of a series of presentations to introduce the participants to the issues relative to commercializing space. Presentations included perspectives on the demand for commercial space ventures, perspectives on the supply side, the venture capital point of view on investing in commercial space enterprises and the research community's interest in commercial space ventures. The following two days participants collaborated on developing plans for how ACES could help move the entire industry forward. The activities focused on: exploring various business models, plans for developing the market, creating standards for commercializing space, identifying the core issues for making space accessible on a more consistent basis, and plans to move specific missions along to highlight the viability of commercializing space. ACES plans to convene the second conference in January, 2006.
